Sherwood number
From Free net encyclopedia
The Sherwood number (Sh) is a dimensionless number used in mass-transfer operation. It represents the ratio of lengthscale to the diffusive boundary layer thickness.
It is defined as follows
<math> Sh = \frac{K_c L}{\mathcal{D}} </math>
It is the mass-transfer equivalent of the Nusselt number where
- <math>K_c</math> = overall mass transfer coefficient;
- <math>L</math> = characteristic length;
- <math>\mathcal{D}</math> = component diffusion coefficientde:Sherwood-Zahl
