Skyhook

Skyhook can refer to any of the following:
- A nonexistent device used in a practical joke to lift a large/heavy object. The skyhook is attached to the air and the object. This has been used by tradesmen for several hundred years. Persons who have been fooled in this way have invented actual things they call skyhooks. Similar to pail of grinder sparks / snipe hunt.
- The word "skyhook" has been used to mean a helicopter.
- An obscure character from Superman comics in league with Blaze and Satanus.
- A Skyhook (structure) used for transporting material to and from a planet's surface into orbit, such as a space elevator.
- A Skyhook (climbing) in technical climbing.
- A Skyhook (boarding) used in skateboarding and related sports.
- Skyhook (concept), Used in the philosopher Daniel Dennett's book, Darwin's Dangerous Idea, a skyhook is a materially unsupported (and thus implausible) entity or process.
- A hook shot, a basketball shot popularized by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
- The Fulton surface-to-air recovery system, a retrieval method to be used by an aircraft
- A fictitious transportation mechanism for the Great Glass Elevator in Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator.
- A fictitious military research project on artificial satellites in the 1956 film Earth vs. the Flying Saucers.
- Skyhook balloon, an unmanned balloon that was launched by the United States Navy in 1957 to take pictures of the sun, and used in a number of other projects.
- Sky Hook (skydiving), a skydiving safety device invented by Relative Workshop
- An anchor for the circular saw used to hang the saw securely on a joist or rafter
- An Australian rock band, Skyhooks
- An air suspension pioneered by Maserati
- Skyhook Wireless, a company that provides localiser and positioning information based on the visibility of local 802.11 APs.
