There are a number of things named Space Opera:
- Space opera is a fantasy-genre (related to science fiction in that is contains similar scientific or futuristic elements) that emphasizes romantic adventure, strong characterization, faster-than-light travel and space battles where the main storyline is centered on interstellar conflict and character drama.
- Space Opera (game) is a role-playing game created by Edward E. Simbalist, A. Mark Ratner, and Phil McGregor for Fantasy Games Unlimited in 1981. Many other SF RPGs like Space Master of late Iron Crown Enterprises and Dying Suns use space opera backgrounds.
- Space Opera (novel) is a 1965 parody by Jack Vance about an interstellar operatic company which brings culture to deprived worlds.
- Space Opera (Opera) is an opera written in 1998 by Cambridge, Massachusetts resident David Bass. It is based on the story of Star Wars, told entirely through music and dance.
- "Space opera" is what L. Ron Hubbard called the collective history of extraterrestrial civilizations and their interactions with Earth humans. According to Scientology, the fiction genre of space opera is actually based on unconscious remembering of real events in these galactic civilizations.
