Spezi

From Free net encyclopedia

Spezi is a soft drink made with cola and lemonade. It was however originally a beer, produced in 1956 by the Brauhaus Riegele in Augsburg.

Spezi was the first cola-mix, and other cola-mixes in Germany similar to Spezi are Schwip Schwap (from Pepsi-Cola), Mezzo Mix (from Coca-Cola) among others. The original Riegele Spezi is sold mostly in 1/2 litre glass bottles, but 0,33l and 1,5l bottles are available as well. There is also a diet version with the slogan: "Spezi ist Spitze - trink das Original!" ("Spezi is great - drink the original!").

Like other colas, Spezi contains caffeine; other ingredients are water, sugar, carbonic acid, orange or lemon and others.

In most of southern Germany and Austria, Spezi is a generic term for a mixture of cola and Fanta (or a similar orange lemonade). Due to its thirst-quenching qualities, it is particularly popular in ski resorts and mountain huts, where it is often served in amounts of 1/2 litre. By contrast, it is hardly ever seen in Vienna.

To make Spezi yourself, mix equal parts of orange soda and cola and add one-fourth of the juice of a lemon.

In some regions of northern germany (Emsland), Spezi stands for a mixture of Schnapps and Colade:Spezi (Getränk) Template:Drink-stub
