Stan Marsh

Template:South Park character Stanley "Stan" Marsh is a fictional character in United States television series South Park. He is voiced by Trey Parker, and is considered Trey's representation in South Park. He and Kyle trade places as the "leader" of the four main characters.
He is the most normal of the kids, and is generally honest and well-meaning. He is somewhat more assertive than his best friend Kyle.

Life
Stan is also notably the skeptic of the group, and is often preachy and very critical of popular trends. This is evident in episode 407 "Cherokee Hair Tampons" when he challenged the character Miss Information and her shop of alternative medicine, in episode 504 "Super Best Friends" when he helped battle David Blaine's suicidal cult, and in episode 615 where he accuses psychic medium John Edward of being the episode's title, "The Biggest Douche in the Universe." However, sometimes Kyle takes on this role, and it is Stan who is the gullible one, such as with the metrosexual trend in the episode "South Park is Gay!", and again in the episode where he turns goth. Stan's and Kyle's personalities are not quite interchangable, but are very similar, and Stan is roughly autobiographical to Trey Parker, where Kyle is equivalent to Matt Stone.
Stan also is an avid animal lover, who tries to save baby cows in Fun With Veal, and attempts to return a goat to its rightful owners in Osama Bin Laden Has Farty Pants. This love of animals tends to lead he and his friends into adventures.
Stan had a girlfriend named Wendy Testaburger who broke up with him in episode 714; he used to vomit every time she tried to talk to him. Wendy is now Token Black's girlfriend. This relationship is apparently no longer active.
Stan's recent interest in Wendy was apparent in the episode Follow That Egg! when he grew jealous of Kyle working with Wendy. However, he decided to show her up by telling her off at the end of the episode.
Family
He is the son of Randall "Randy" (a geologist with the United States Geological Survey) and Sharon Marsh (a receptionist at Tom's Rhinoplasty), he has an older sister, Shelley, named after Trey Parker's sister, who beats him up on a regular basis and often calls him a "turd", and a gay dog named Sparky. He once owned a killer goldfish. On top of being a geologist, his father is a Nobel Prize winner and former boy band member. Stan even has a wheelchair-bound grandfather who always called him "Billy" and often asked him to kill him. Stan is also the nephew of Jimbo (a hunter) who is Sharon's brother.
In the Show
Image:StanWithoutHat.jpg He and Kyle switched places on announcing Kenny's death by saying "Oh my God, they killed Kenny!" Usually followed by the other saying "You bastards." This became less and less emphatic over the years as Kenny continued to die.
He wears a dark blue hat with red trim and poofball, a brown coat, blue pants, and red mittens. Stan rarely takes off his hat, but underneath is shaggy black hair, which was first shown in the episode How to Eat with Your Butt. He also apparently has blue eyes, as noted by Kyle when Butters draws their cartoon forms in episode 417 "A Very Crappy Christmas".

Athletics
Stan seems to be athletically proficient, seeing as he is usually the captain or star player of various sports teams throughout the series. He was the quarterback of the school football team in Big Gay Al's Big Gay Boat Ride and the pitcher of the baseball team in The Losing Edge.
Trivia
- It has been noted by the show's creators that Stan has asthma.
- He seems to be a proud Denver Broncos fan, much like Parker and Stone.
- According to The South Park Scriptorium, Stan's birthday is October 19
