Starfleet Engineering Corps

Image:Starfleet-engineering-logo.jpg In the fictional universe of Star Trek, the Starfleet Engineering Corps is tasked with the design, construction, and maintenance of Starfleet shore installations and starships. Also referred to as the Starfleet Corps of Engineers, members of the Engineering Corps should not be confused with Starfleet Engineering Officers, who are line personnel assigned to starships in such capacities as Chief Engineer.

In Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, the Starfleet Corps of Engineers was responsible for the construction of Dr. Marcus's underground laboratory complex at the asteroid Regula, at which the second phase of Project Genesis was conducted. Ensign Harry Kim worked for the Corps of Engineers in 2372 during an alternate reality created when his shuttle intersected a timestream. In this he helped design a new runabout designated as a Yellowstone class vessel in the Star Trek: Voyager episode "Non Sequitur." This episode referred to it as the Starfleet Engineering Corps.

In 2375, during the Dominion War, Klingon starships were immune to the Breen energy dampening weapon by adjusting the tritium intermix of their ships' warp cores. This "fix" would not work on Federation ships and Starfleet Chief Miles O'Brien forwarded his findings to Starfleet Engineering for more in-depth analyses. (DS9: When It Rains)

The Starfleet Engineering Corps is comparable to the Civil Engineer Corps and the Seabees of the 20th century and 21st century United States Navy, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Starfleet Corps of Engineers also refers to a continuing series of short stories, published by Pocket Books, set chiefly during the late 24th century. Based on the starship USS Da Vinci, a group of S.C.E. personnel are assigned to follow up on the discoveries of alien technologies. Several alien characters appear as part of the regular crew. The stories are published first as e-books, and later published in paperback format.
