Steyr Scout
From Free net encyclopedia
The Steyr Scout is a modern scoped bolt-action rifle manufactured by Steyr Mannlicher and chambered for 7.62 mm NATO (.308 Winchester). It is intended to fill the role of a versatile, lightweight all-around rifle as specified in Jeff Cooper's scout rifle concept. It is made primarily of polymer and was designed to be accurate to 300 to 400 meters. The Steyr Scout is also available in 5.56mm NATO.

Criticism
There have been reports of problems with the Steyr Scout rifle regarding parts breakage in light of its rather high retail price. The use of plastics and other light material compromises some structural durability of the gun. These criticisms are often qualified by praise for the concept.

Steyr Scout in Popular Culture
- The Steyr Scout has gained a fairly large amount of recognition, thanks to the PC and Xbox game Counter-Strike and now Counter-Strike Source, although it is known as the "Schmidt Scout" in the retail version to avoid trademark infringement. See Scout at Counter-Strike Equipment
