History

Stilgar Ben Fifrawi was born in 10141 A.G. in Umbu Sietch as Tuan on the planet Arrakis. In 10175 A.G., Stilgar called out Forad the Naib of Sietch Tabr and defeated him, becoming the new Naib of Sietch Tabr, a title he would hold until his death in 10228 A.G.

Back when Stilgar was still young, he and two friends, Turok and Ommun had been cornered by Harkonnens. Stilgar was badly injured and would have died, if Pardot Kynes had not come and helped kill the Harkonnens.

Because of this water-debt, Stilgar and Pardot Kynes became good comrades. Stilgar and his other two friends (Turok and Ommun) promised Pardot Kynes to help him achieve his dream of turning Arrakis into a paradise.

When Pardot Kynes died, Stilgar was a very good friend to his son Liet Kynes, and there is evidence to suggest that he was something of a paternal figure to Chani daughter of Liet and later concubine/wife of Paul-Muad'dib-Atredies.

Stilgar has two wives, one of which is briefly named as Tharthar

Name

It was not until 10153 A.G. after a successful raid against a Harkonnen village that he acquired the name of Stilgar. Among the members of Umbu Sietch, he was known as Sahkan or the Desert Hawk.

The character Stilgar becomes the leader of Fremen after Liet-Kynes is killed. He meets Paul Atreides (Muad'Dib) in the first novel Dune, where he spares Paul's life as he is supposed to be a messiah according to a prophecy. By the end of Dune, he is in awe of Paul and considers him to be his emperor like the other Fremen. In the second (Dune Messiah) and third (Children of Dune) novels, he is a staunch helper/supporter of Paul and Paul's children, Leto II and Ghanima, respectively.
