The Supreme People's Assembly is the parliament of North Korea (DPRK). It consists of 687 members, who are popularly elected to serve five year terms (though these elections are widely regarded as undemocratic). Elections were last held in August 3 2003, and will be held again in 2008. Kim Yong Nam currently serves as President of the body. According to the Constitution of North Korea, it is the highest organ of state power, though it is internationally known as a rubber stamp assembly. When the Assembly is not in session the Presidium, nominally elected by the members of the assembly, serves as the country's legislature. Kim Yong-nam is also President of this body.
