Target

A target can signify:

from ca. 1400 a light shield, being the diminutive of targe.
From the 18th century, an object which is aimed at or fired at, originally in archery, later also in artillery.

An object or victim of criticism, bullying or crime
A biological target, usually an enzyme or other protein (for pharmacologically active compounds)
A conservation target, usually specific biodiversity targets (e.g., species, ecological communities, and ecological systems) that a conservation organization has chosen to concentrate on protecting.
