The Official Story

The Official Story (also screened in English-speaking markets as The Official Version original title in Spanish: La historia oficial) is a 1985 Argentine film about a couple in Buenos Aires with an adopted child. The mother comes to realize that her daughter may be the biological child of a desaparecido (a victim of forced disappearance during the Dirty War in the 1970s dictatorial government).
This film, starring Norma Aleandro and Héctor Alterio, was directed by Luis Puenzo. It won the 1985 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
The screenplay, written by the film's director Luis Puenzo and famed Argentine writer Aída Bortnik, was also nominated for an Academy Award in the category of Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen.
