Time Crisis 3 is the third incarnation of the wildly popular Time Crisis arcade series. The game is physically similar to the Time Crisis II setup, featuring two players able to cover each other. The game keeps the pedal system for hiding and advancing, but incorporates a new type of weapons system allowing the player to switch between the standard issue 9-round handgun, a fully automatic machine gun that can hold 200 rounds, a shotgun with 50 rounds for close quarters fighting, and a grenade launcher with a five round capacity. Only the handgun has unlimited ammunition, so players must shoot yellow-clad soldiers to obtain additional ammunition for other weapons.

Later, this title was also released for the PlayStation 2, together with a side story featuring Alicia Winston as a player, who is only an unplayable supporter in the Arcade Release of the game. Unlike Time Crisis and Time Crisis II, you have to play the game as Alicia to know the game's true end. As with the PlayStation2 version of Time Crisis II, Crisis Mission exercises are offered to those who complete the game as both the VSSE Agents and Alicia Winston.

The story

VSSE view

In the Mediterranean, a crisis is brewing. The small, peaceful island of Astigos and the independent nation of Lukano have been invaded by the Zagorias Federation, led by Giorgio Zott. The invasion, sparked by Lukanoan opposition to annexation, has several surrounding Mediterranean nations voicing opposition to the Zagorias Federation. Despite stiff opposition, the Zagorian Forces continue their invasion of Astigos and in 2-3 months, took control of 80% of the island. Zagorian Forces are also using Astigos as a tactical base to advance onto Lukano, but not without alerting Lukano Liberation Force's leader Daniel Winston about the Tactical Missile placement within what it's called "The Military Summit". Winston, his second-in-command Jake Hernandez, and other Lukano Liberation troopers attempted to attack the Zagorian Missile Silo only to be captured, resulting in a fatal disadvantage for Lukano. The Zagorian Army is now asking Lukano to capitulate with Zagoria in exchange for the lives of the hostages.

However, according to VSSE sources, the potency of the tactical missiles are labeled a threat not only to Lukano, but the surrounding nations, who ironically also protest the Zagorias Federation's annexation efforts as well. Anxious about the tension within the Mediterranean, VSSE dispatched two agents, Alan Dunaway and Wesley Lambert, to remove the threat.

Alan and Wesley had a rough start entering the island as they were greeted by several Zagorian Troops not welcoming the two visitors to Astigos. As Victor Zahn pinned the VSSE agents onto a wrecked ship, suddenly Alicia Winston, the last remaining troop of the LLA, comes in to rescue the VSSE agents from certain doom, and eventually fought back against Victor Zahn. The three befriend each other, but Alicia focused in having Alan and Wesley locate the missiles. Through an intense shootout at an Astigos village, within the forest of Astigos, Alan and Wesley managed to get into a train in which according to Alicia, "is the only way to the facility." Alicia then catches the train after being somewhat tardy, but the train trip was cut short when Randy Garrett destroyed the bridge leading to the Missile Silo and the Military Summit. Garrett's tyranny didn't stop Alan, Wesley, and Alicia from getting to the Military Summit, though. Shortly, they located Daniel, being provocated by Zott. Alan and Wesley distract the troops while Alicia finds a haven to rescue Daniel secretly and quickly. Before Alan and Wesley were able to rescue Daniel, they had to fight with an old rival, Wild Dog, and Wild Dog's apprentice, Wild Fang. Now Alan and Wesley approached Daniel only to see Zott blocking them. After Alicia landed a bullet right onto Zott's hand, Zott headed towards the missiles and Alan and Wesley went after Zott while Alicia took care of Daniel.

Through the flaming corridors of the library, Alan and Wesley were hot on the trail of Zott when Zott had them cut off by several Zagorian troopers. Alicia, Daniel, and the rescued troopers broke the VSSE agents loose so that Alan and Wesley would advance into the Missile Silo. Both Alan and Wesley discovered that Zott already programmed the missiles and he's ready to launch them, and challenges the VSSE agents to a duel. Despite his fierce efforts, Zott was killed, but not without telling the VSSE agents that they have no hope left. As the missiles were launching, Alan and Wesley found some RPGs to use to prevent the missiles from leaving the silo, blowing up the silo, immolating Zott, and saving Lukano from extermination.

With the tactical missiles destroyed, the VSSE agents leave everything else up to the LLA, but Wesley knows that they'll do fine.

View of Alicia Winston

After watching the top story of the Ten O'Clock News edition of Euro Flash, Alicia Winston, no longer willing to see her beloved Lukano decay through the hands of the Zagorias Federation, makes her way into Marano Beach of Astigos Island. Winston succeeds in making a sneak attack onto the Turret Command Post that contains sensitive data regarding about the Zagorian Federation's true intent. Downloading the Tactical Missile and military summit data onto her handheld computer, Alicia uploads the stolen information from her handheld onto her laptop computer, then contacts the VSSE through a special comlink, uploading an encrypted version of the information she stole during a night raid at Astigos Island. In response to the encrypted information Alicia uploaded to the VSSE, they are sending next-generation VSSE Agents Alan and Wesley to support her cause, but not after Alan and Wesley left their homes preventing the VSSE from being aware of Alicia.

The Rendezvous was proven to be a rough one, as the VSSE were given a cold welcome by the Zagorian Troopers at the Marano Sea. This caused the Zagorian Troopers at the street to receive a call for backup, but Alicia, no ordinary woman, sought to distract the Zagorian Troopers, giving the VSSE room for error. Alicia then steals a Zagorian Jeep and headed towards Marano Beach, only to see Victor Zahn's V-TOL Aircraft commencing to attack a wrecked liner, pinning Alan and Wesley down. Just as Victor has the VSSE down to their knees, Alicia came to their rescue, urges them to jump into her jeep. With the VSSE Agents on her jeep, Alicia then provocates Victor and his V-TOL, fighting back.

Alicia introduced herself to the VSSE agents, but Alan thinks that Alicia is out of her mind just because he thinks that a woman shouldn't work alone. Alicia then tells the agents her reason for launching her own investigation, then Wesley started clarifying Alicia's causes. Afterwards, back at the Astigos streets, Alicia informs the VSSE Agents that a train being used for supply transportation would be the only way into the missile silo. Their conversation was cut by a Rocket Launcher launched by a Special Weapons Trooper, and Wesley encourages Alicia to split up and meet them at the train up ahead. Alicia says that the train leaves at 15:00 without exceptions.

Then Alicia makes her way into the streets fighting clawmen, elite troopers, a heavy tank, sharpshooters, leading her to Jake Hernandez, who was the only one who managed to escape. However, Alicia then discovers Jake's true colors as he pointed his gun onto Alicia's head, hoping to capture her for even more money--it seems that Jake Hernandez betrayed the LLA for the love of money. Alicia kicked Jake right on his stomach, grabbed her handgun, and knocked Jake's gun out of his hand. Alicia and Jake fought through the streets as Jake used innocent bystanders to test Alicia's aim, while Alicia had to contend with lorries, special weapon soldiers, and other troopers before pinning Jake to a dead-end. Alicia, in an act of anger, threatened to kill Jake if he didn't tell her whether or not her brother is alive. A Zagorian Jeep then distracted Alicia enough to enable Jake to escape. Knowing that she would be tardy if she didn't reach the train, Alicia made a rush run into the train. The intense street fight was the reason why Alicia was tardy, something Alan was not aware of, and why Wesley started worrying about Alicia.

The train was littered with Zagorian Soldiers as Alan, Wesley, and Alicia weren't welcome in the train. Alicia had to confront an attacking train at the back of the train before realizing that a group of Zagorian Sharpshooters were about to take aim at the VSSE Agents. With her sniper rifle, Alicia managed to cut the snipers off, and the VSSE Agents were able to throw Randy Garrett to his doom. Alan, Wesley, and Alicia now realize that they can only reach the summit by foot, due to Garrett's cut-off of the bridge during the VSSE fight against Randy earlier on.

The three managed to locate Daniel. Wesley told Alicia that he and Alan will distract the enemy troops while Alicia finds a haven to rescue Daniel secretly and quickly. Alicia does this without question, disposing of any Zagorian Troopers on sight. On top of the tower, Alan and Wesley, victorious against Dog and Fang, were blocked by Giorgio Zott, who has Daniel held captive. Alicia aimed her sniper rifle and knocked the handgun threatening to end Daniel's life out of Zott's hands.

Left with no choice, Zott headed to the missile controls. Wesley told Alicia to take care of her brother while he and Alan chased after Zott. Daniel tells Alicia to leave him for now so that he can catch up later because he wanted Alicia to rescue the imprisoned LLA Soldiers. Alicia does this without question, making her way towards the prisoner cells, rescuing any LLA Troopers she sees impounded in the Zagorian Prison Cells. After rescuing the last bastion of captured soldiers, Daniel caught up with Alicia. Alicia, sensing a premonition, urged her brother and her now-rescued LLA teammates that the VSSE Agents are in trouble and need help.

Looking at the nasty surprise Alan and Wesley received from Zott, Alicia and her minions broke the agents free, but Wesley said that Zott needs to be stopped because it has came to his attention that the missiles could be launched if Zott finished programming them. Alicia then holds the Zagorian troopers for the agents as Alan and Wesley chase after Zott, but not after Jake makes his entrance into the scene of violence. Jake escapes, but not before Alicia spots him. Realizing the trouble Alicia had to go through just to rescue Lukano from danger and the betrayal Jake did, Daniel told Alicia to go after Jake and leave the rest up to him for now. Alicia, knowing that Jake double-crossed Lukano, agrees to do so.

Before Jake can escape through a Zagorian-funded V-TOL Aircraft, Alicia challenges Jake into a duel, with Alicia severely damaging the V-TOL and holding the high ground. Jake threatened to blow up the place with a detonator, but Alicia destroyed the detonator with her sniper rifle. The bullet penetrated the detonator, gunning Jake down as well. The V-TOL then blew up, killing the traitor and leaving with Alicia with nothing to hold her and Lukano back.

Alicia then hurries to the Missile Silo only to know that it blew up already, but sees that Alan and Wesley got out of the silo alive. With the VSSE Agents leaving the rest to the LLA, Alicia wonders what her life would be without the VSSE Agents, but Daniel reassures her that the remaining Zagorian Forces needs to be mopped up.

New beginning

A Euro Flash newscast then announces that Lukano has 90% control over Astigos Island, thus a lot of Astigoans favored Lukano's valiant effort in resisting the Zagorias Federation. Giorgio Zott was also killed during a military campaign involving Tactical Missiles plus Jake Hernandez was the traitor killed during his quest for money as well. Without its leader and without superweapons of mass destruction, and with Astigos celebrating their peaceful independence after 1 month of conflict, the remaining Zagorian Force are being forced to either retreat or die by the Lukano Liberation Force, putting an end to the Mediterranean Crisis.

Game characters

Protagonists

  • Alan Dunaway (Phoenix)--An operative of the V.S.S.E., Alan has a talent for mastering new skills quickly. After four years in the V.S.S.E., Alan has acquired a reputation for fearlessness in the face of incredible odds. A natural team player, Alan enjoys cracking a joke or two when on the job. Alan is played by Player 1.
  • Wesley Lambert (Pegasus)--An operative of the V.S.S.E., Wesley is considered an excellent shot with his gun. Holding a doctorate in engineering, Wesley is valued for his unflappability in extreme situations, where he can cooly make strategic decisions. Quiet and reserved, Wesley loves to spend his spare time with animals. Wesley is played by Player 2.
  • Alicia Winston--A member of the Lukano Liberation Army and the sister of Daniel Winston. Originally trained as a medic, Alicia has proved her combat skills in the field as an excellent sniper. On the mission to destroy the tactical missiles on Astigos Island, most of the Lukano Liberation Army was captured, making Alicia Lukano's last hope. Using her Eyes Only Clearance, she manages to make contact with Alan and Wesley, whom she supports in their assault against the Zagorias Army. Alicia also manages to take down Jake Hernandez, who had betrayed the Lukano Liberation Army. Alicia is only playable on the PlayStation2 release of the game.
  • Daniel Winston--The leader of the Lukano Liberation Army. Hard-working and devoted to the cause of his country, Lukano, Daniel led a mission to the Zagorias-occupied Astigos Island, but was captured soon afterwards. He was eventually rescued by Alan, Wesley and his sister, Alicia.

Antagonists

  • Wild Dog--See the separate article for details
  • Wild Fang--During Alan and Wesley's assault on Astigos Island, an unknown mercenary named Wild Fang was accompanying the terrorist Wild Dog. Wild Fang was dressed similarly to Wild Dog and bore a facial resemblance to Wild Dog as well. In combat, Wild Fang was an expert martial artist and a competent gunman. His favorite tactic was to kick various heavy objects (such as construction beams, crates, tires and even forklifts) towards his targets. There has been some speculation that Wild Fang was Wild Dog's apprentice as well as his son.
  • Giorgio Zott--The leader of the Zagorias Federation Army during the takeover of Astigos Island. Zott, despite protests from other nations and heavy resistance from the LLA, managed to seize 80% of Astigos Island in as little as three months. In combat, Zott prefers to use a sword in one hand and an automatic machine gun in the other.
  • Jake Hernandez--The former second-in-command of the Lukano Liberation Army. Greedy and selfish, Jake leaked information about the Lukano Liberation Army to Zott in return for money. Jake was paid a sizable fortune for his part in the capture of most of the Lukano Army's members. When Jake learned that Alicia had escaped, he tried to capture her as well for more money. In combat, Jake was an excellent gunman proficient in the use of explosives, as well as martial arts. Jake was finally killed by Alicia when he tried to escape in a V-TOL prepared for him by Zott.
  • Victor Zahn--A solid V-TOL Pilot who served the Zagorias Federation for years. Victor tried to kill Alan and Wesley with the armaments of the V-TOL he was piloting, including a large machine gun, gun turrets and missiles. Despite this, Victor was killed and the gunship was destroyed.
  • Randy Garrett--Apparently the leader of the Zagorian Clawmen. When Alan and Wesley rode a supply train to reach the Astigos Island missile facility, Randy and his team of clawmen tried to ambush them. Randy seemed to be skilled in ninjitsu techniques and was armed with a pair of claw-tipped bracers and a grenade launcher. Randy was shot down by Alan and Wesley after a drawn-out fight.

Trivia

All of the stages (excluding 2-1, 2-2 and 3-1) end with some kind of explosion, such as the end of stage 3, level 1 where the V-TOL explodes.

In the final stage of story mode, in the missile control center, a giant poster saying "Safety First" can be seen
