Tito Jackson (born Toriano Adaryll Jackson on October 15 1953 in Gary, Indiana) is an African-American singer and guitarist, formerly a member of The Jackson 5. He's the elder brother of American singers Jermaine Jackson, Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson.
Early Life
Born the third eldest of the family, Tito inherited his talent from his father, Joseph, who was the leader of a blues band called the Falcons. The Falcons never got off the ground and Joseph continued with his full-time job as a steel-mill crane operator. While he was gone, Tito and his brothers Jackie and Jermaine played with Joseph's guitar with their mother, Katherine's blessing until Joseph returned home from work.
But after being caught by his father playing his guitar, Tito was forced to show his talent in front of him. Joseph was inspired afterwards to form a group around Tito and his brothers Jackie and Jermaine in 1962. Two years later, younger brothers Marlon and Michael joined the lineup of the group, who eventually became the Jackson 5.
Music Career
Throughout his 27-year tenure as member of the Jackson 5, Tito was known as "the quiet member" of the group through PR though Tito's actual behavior was different and though he played guitar while on tour with his brothers, he didn't play guitar on any of the Jackson 5's Motown singles and albums. Tito was finally recorded playing on a Jacksons album after the group left Motown for CBS Records in 1976. Tito was the only Jackson who didn't release an album on his own until recently when he and his band recorded several blues covers on an album called R U Ready? Tito took after his father, who fronted a blues band himself before managing his sons. Tito also managed his own sons' career helping the brother group 3T find worldwide fame in the mid-1990s. In 1997, Tito joined his brothers onstage to accept their induction to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Personal
Tito only married once eloping with Dominican beauty Delores Martez in 1972. Divorced in 1990, the couple had three sons. Martez was later murdered by her boyfriend at her home by the pool in 1994. Tito was recently present at his brother Michael's child molestation, conspiracy and alcohol trial. He's also has been the brunt of several jokes over the years and was most famously recited during a scene in Rush Hour where Chris Tucker told co-star Jackie Chan, I'm Michael Jackson, you Tito!
