A Tomahawk was a type of Native American axe. Traditionally short and resembling a hatchet, with a wooden shaft and, initially, with a stone but later with an iron or brass head. Originally developed from a boarding axe used by the Royal Navy and traded with Native Americans for food and other provisions. A general purpose tool, it is often regarded as solely a hand or thrown weapon. The name came into the English language in the 17th century as a transliteration of the Virginian Algonquin word.
Tomahawks designed by Peter LaGana were issued to US forces during the Vietnam war.de:Tomahawk (Waffe) eo:Tomahoko (hakilo) ja:トマホーク pl:Tomahawk sl:Tomahavk he:טומהוק (גרזן)
