Traditional Britain Group
From Free net encyclopedia
The Traditional Britain Group was established in 2001 following the disbanding of the Western Goals Institute.
It received the mailing lists from the old WGI and has had others passed to it. It is understood that its mailings exceed 1000 although the number of paid up members and supporters is small - almost certainly less than half of that. The group publishes an occasional newsletter, usually bi-annual, which carries articles opposing the liberalisation of the Conservative Party, the European Union (EU), immigration, and other subjects which it believes are relevant to its view of a traditional Britain.
On its Executive Committee are Gregory Lauder-Frost and Stuart Millson. There is a part-time secretary.
On the 15th July the Group issued a Press Release attacking the Fabian Society's proposals for the abolition of the British Monarchy, and accused the BBC of giving prominent attention to the proposals. The group recalled that a past leader of the society, professor Cole, had called for Britain to embrace Stalinism rather than capitalism. That was followed by a letter published in The Times, (19th July 2003) from Lauder-Frost, on behalf of the Group, attacking the Fabian Society.
The group holds an annual "Traditional Britain Dinner". The 7 November 2003 event was at Simpson's-in-the-Strand and their Guest-of-Honour was Tony Martin, the Norfolk farmer who shot two burglars who had broken into his farmhouse. Martin had been burglarised on numerous occasions in the past. A number of figures on the British right were in attendance including Derek Turner, editor of the magazine Right Now!, Mike Smith, United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) candidate for Portsmouth North in the 2005 General Election and Chairman of the Conservative Democratic Alliance, Andrew Moffat, who stood for UKIP at the last two general elections, Adrian Davies, the barrister who is Chairman of the fledgling Freedom Party, John Gouriet, a founder with Norris McWhirter of the Freedom Association, and David Irving, (refer: The Daily Telegraph Court & Social page, 8 November 2003).
The 2006 Traditional Britain Dinner took place on 8 February, again at Simpson's-in-the-Strand, with Gregory Lauder-Frost presiding. The Guest-of-Honour was the biographer and traditional Tory journalist Simon Heffer. (Refer: The Daily Telegraph Court and Social page, 9 February 2006).
