Tropius
From Free net encyclopedia
Tropius (トロピウス Tropius in Japanese, also called Tropius in German and French) is a fictional character of the Pokémon franchise.
Tropius's name is derived from the words tropic or tropism and Brachiosaurus.

Appearance
Tropius's appearance is modelled after the image we have of dinosaurs, Brachiosaurus in particular. Tropius is a quadruped, with brown skin and a long, slender neck. Its head is covered with a green, leafy structure resembling a helmet. Tropius also has leaves on its back, but they are larger, broader and resemble wings in both shape and position. Sweet, yellow, banana-like fruit (Nanab Berry) grows in bunches under its chin, from which it can scatter pollen.
Biology
Tropius's natural habitat is the jungles of the southern tropics. It is a 'fructivore', thriving on fruit. It is theorized that Tropius's love of fruit eventually resulted in the species incorporating fruit as part of its very anatomy. It may also be that Tropius eats so much fruit that it gets an excess of vitamins and minerials, so it grows fruit to get rid of excess nutrients.
Bunches of banana-like fruit can be seen growing under a Tropius's neck. These fruit are deliciously sweet and particularly popular among the children in south tropical villages, who eat it as snacks.
It may also be possible that male Tropius use their bananas to attract mates, bigger bananas means healthier Tropius, it may also be an indication of how plentiful the food is in Tropius' territory.
Tropius also has broad leaves on its back, which, if flapped hard enough, can be used as wings, enabling this bulky Pokémon to fly.
In the video games
In Pokémon Colosseum, Tropius is a Shadow Pokémon and can be snagged in the Realgam Tower Colosseum. Otherwise, it can be caught in Route 119 in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald.
Tropius has some slightly above average stats, like Hit Points and defenses and some slightly below average stats, such as attack and speed. The Sunny Day move may prove beneficial while using a Tropius: its Chlorophyll ability will double its speed, it will be able to use the powerful Grass-type Solarbeam attack consecutively and the Synthesis move will restore its health completely. On the other hand, Sunny Day will also double the power of Fire-type attacks, against which Tropius is weak.
Other moves commonly used in Tropius movesets include Giga Drain and Steel Wing to cover its other weaknesses, against Water/Ice and Rock or Ground-type Pokémon respectively.
Tropius is also useful as an HM Slave, being able to learn Cut, Fly, Strength, Flash and Rock Smash.
In the animé
Tropius had a single minor appearance in the sixth movie (Jirachi Wish-Maker). It is one of the Pokémon shown to be fleeing from the false Groudon the film's villain has summoned.
Tropius also appeared in the Hoenn League under the direction of Tomono in the episode "From Brags To Riches".
A wild Tropius appeared in the episode "Grovyle VS Tropius! Grass Field Duel!", where it was challenged by Ash's headstrong Grovyle.
In the Cards
Tropius has been seen on two cards thus far, one on EX Hidden Legends and another on EX Deoxys.
