U.S. Route 169

Image:US 169.svg U.S. Route 169 is a spur of U.S. Route 69. It currently runs for 1,555 km (966 mi) from Virginia, Minnesota at U.S. Route 53 to Tulsa, Oklahoma at U.S. Route 64. It passes through the states of Minnesota, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas and Oklahoma.

In Minneapolis, the route is constructed to freeway standards between Interstate 494 and Hennepin County Road 81. Construction to link the freeway north of I-494 with the freeway segment a few miles south of I-494 is underway. The freeway between Interstate 494 and Interstate 694 was originally built by Hennepin County, Minnesota as County Road 18. Around 1988, it was transferred to the state of Minnesota. In exchange, Hennepin County took over maintenance of two other highways that were formerly state routes.
Also in the Minneapolis area, US 169 is a very congested freeway which desperately needs expansion, however the freeway passes very close to residential neighborhoods so any expansion will not come without great cost to residents.
