UNKLE

From Free net encyclopedia

Originally consisting solely of James Lavelle, UNKLE first appeared in 1994 with the deeply intense, introverted, abstract, and otherworldly underground hiphop 12" maxi single called "The Time has Come". After a couple of minor singles and EPs, UNKLE released the more commercial Psyence Fiction in 1998, on which James Lavelle and DJ Shadow collaborated with a variety of guest artists including Thom Yorke (Radiohead), Ian Brown (The Stone Roses), Mike D (Beastie Boys), Kool G. Rap and Richard Ashcroft (The Verve).

In 2003, without DJ Shadow and the addition of new collaborator Richard File, UNKLE released Never, Never, Land which featured Ian Brown, Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age), Robert Del Naja (Massive Attack), Mani (The Stone Roses, Primal Scream) and others.

As of the end of January 2006, the as yet untitled follow-up to Never, Never, Land was being mixed in London with a view to a Summer 2006 release. It will feature guest appearances by Josh Homme, Brody Dalle (The Distillers), Chris Goss (Masters of Reality), Ian Astbury (The Cult) and Autolux. [1]

James Lavelle has also released several mix albums and remixes under the name 'UNKLE' or 'UNKLEsounds'. These are often collaborations with The Psychonauts or Richard File.
