Union Gap is a city located in Yakima County, Washington, in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 5,621.

Union Gap was officially incorporated on November 23, 1883.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 13.0 km² (5.0 mi²). 13.0 km² (5.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.20% is water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 5,621 people, 2,070 households, and 1,407 families residing in the city. The population density was 431.5/km² (1,117.7/mi²). There were 2,210 housing units at an average density of 169.6/km² (439.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 72.19% White, 0.41% African American, 2.24% Native American, 0.57% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 20.17% from other races, and 4.32% from two or more races. 29.57% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 2,070 households out of which 33.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.7% were married couples living together, 14.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.0% were non-families. 26.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.20.
In the city the population was spread out with 28.5% under the age of 18, 9.4% from 18 to 24, 28.4% from 25 to 44, 20.4% from 45 to 64, and 13.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 99.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.3 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $30,676, and the median income for a family was $34,795. Males had a median income of $25,802 versus $23,393 for females. The per capita income for the city was $13,102. 18.0% of the population and 14.9% of families were below the poverty line. 24.2% of those under the age of 18 and 9.9% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
