Victoria is a city located in Carver County, Minnesota. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 4,025.

Geography

Image:MNMap-doton-Victoria.png According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 22.1 km² (8.5 mi²). 18.1 km² (7.0 mi²) of it is land and 4.0 km² (1.5 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 17.94% water. It has been nicknamed "The City of Lakes and Parks" because it has over 200 acres of reserved land and nine lakes within its borders.

In the 1850s, Victoria's rich soil attracted many farmers from Germany, Switzerland, and Holland. Wheat was the main cash crop. Other early crops were potatoes, carrots, cabbage, and corn.

Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 4,025 people, 1,367 households, and 1,141 families residing in the city. The population density was 222.3/km² (575.4/mi²). There were 1,410 housing units at an average density of 77.9/km² (201.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 97.91% White, 0.27% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.84% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.37% from other races, and 0.47% from two or more races. 0.99% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 1,367 households out of which 47.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 76.0% were married couples living together, 5.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 16.5% were non-families. 11.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.90 and the average family size was 3.17.

In the city the population was spread out with 31.7% under the age of 18, 4.2% from 18 to 24, 33.5% from 25 to 44, 24.0% from 45 to 64, and 6.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 99.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.8 males. 1.9% of the population is foreign born.

The median income for a household in the city was $86,772, and the median income for a family was $91,681. Males had a median income of $60,931 versus $34,519 for females. The per capita income for the city was $38,929. 2.3% of the population and 1.3% of families were below the poverty line. 2.1% of those under the age of 18 and 2.2% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
