WDRV

WDRV is a radio station in Chicago, Illinois. It Operates on a frequency of 97.1 MHz (FM Channel 246), with an effective radiated power of 8.4 kW, as authorized by the Federal Communications Commission. Programs a classic hits leaning classic rock format. The station is currently owned by Bonneville International.
Began in 1957 as classical WNIB (NIB=Northern Illinois Broadcasting, original owner). The station was sold in 2000 to Bonneville International.
The station then switched to its current calls and format April 2, 2001. "The Drive's" personalities and music presentation are reminiscent of Chicago's WLUP in its early days, which happens to be a former radio home of midday host Bob Stroud, morning man Steve Downs and morning news anchor Cathy Voltmer. Current personalities include Steve Downes (mornings), Bob Stroud (middays), Phil Manicki (afternoons), Christine Moran (evenings), and Greg Easterling (overnights). Simulcast by WWDV, Zion, Illinois (96.9 MHz, FM channel 245) since January 1, 2003. Call letters stand for THE DRIVE.
