This is a selected list of banned Wikipedia users. Users whose names are in bold have been specifically banned. The other users listed were blocked as likely sockpuppets of banned users without a specific declaration of a ban.

Banning is different from blocking; blocking is a technical measure to disable editing by a specific account or IP address, but banning is when a specific person is no longer welcome to edit here. Banned users may be blocked as soon as it's obvious who they are. For more information, see the blocking policy and the banning policy.

Jason Gastrich and numerous sockpuppets were all banned for one year (From March 21, 2006) for flagrant violation of multiple policies, initially PoV pushing on theological articels, later incredible sock and meat puppetry, as well as infamously listing legitimate articles he had issues with for deletion. CheeseDreams

CheeseDreams was subject to an arbitration case which limited CheeseDreams' editing, and banned CheeseDreams for a year, starting from March 3, 2005. -Ril-

In an arbitration case against "-Ril-", it was decided that -Ril- was a sockpuppet of CheeseDreams. -Ril- was blocked indefinitely, and CheeseDreams' ban was reset to another year, starting from March 28, 2006. The confirmation was based on numerous typographical similarities and behaviour patterns common to both users. Additionally, -Ril- only edited while CheeseDreams was blocked. However, -Ril- edited for almost a year before it was noticed that -Ril- was a sockpuppet of CheeseDreams, and the account had been in use for well over a year before it was finally blocked permanently. -Ril- was previously subject to an aribitration case that forced a signature change on his part (It was originally "~~~~"), which -Ril- disliked.

Banned by the Wikipedia community

As per the blocking and banning policies, a user who alienates and offends the community enough may eventually be blocked by an administrator... and no one is willing to unblock them. In such extreme cases, the user is considered to have been banned by the general community.

Pioneer-12

Pioneer-12 has been banned for insisting that his contributions to talk pages were not licensed under the GFDL, and thus by fundamentally denying the terms of use of the site. Returns frequently open proxy IPs. This ban may be lifted if Pioneer-12 agrees to abide Wikipedia's terms of use and license his signed comments under the GFDL. For more information, see User:Pioneer-12.

Rovoam

After an Arbitration decision which limited his editing, Rovoam has employed anon IPs from various service providers (AOL, MSN, NetZero, RoadRunner, DSLExtreme) to continue his particular editing agenda and vandalize user pages and talk pages.

This person has been extremely persistent in vandalizing numerous Azerbaijan and Turkey-related entries, such as Nagorno-Karabakh, Caucasian Albania, Artsakh, Arran (Azerbaijan), Urartu, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kura-Araxes culture, Nakhichevan, Safavids, Karabakh, Khojaly, Khojaly massacre, Stepanakert, Khankendi, Demographics of Azerbaijan, History of Azerbaijan, History of Turkey, Oghuz Turks, Turks and even Template:Europe (removing Azerbaijan from the list).

He also made threats to escalate his efforts, including using "a DoS attack, which will make Wikipedia unavailable for all editors".

More updated information and a list of IP addresses are provided at User:Rovoam.

Gibraltarian

While being decided against by an Arbitration case, Gibraltarian's main account was blocked by an administrator, and he started to use many sock puppets to circumvent his block. Gibraltarian edited pages on Gibraltar from an extreme PoV point, refused to allow alternate opinions, vandalized when he didn't get his way, and harassed almost all who had to do with him. His actions have lead to almost all of Gibraltar being blocked at one point or another.

Tommstein

While he was the subject of an ArbCom case, and after insulting several members of the ArbCom, Tommstein was blocked indefinitely. No other admin was willing to unblock him. Flavius vanillus

Blocked on April 2nd, 2006 per the NLP arbcom decision. He was given multiple opportunities to be civil and to avoid personal attacks. He was blocked 6 times for violations of the arbcom case. This was the last straw. He made it very clear that he had no intention of following Wikipedia policy.

-Inanna-

After many individual blocks for edit warring and incivility, -Inanna-'s last block was extended to indefinite and she was banned following discussion on the Administrators' noticeboard (see discussion). She also engaged in racist remarks.

Mistress Selina Kyle

See Wikipedia:Requests for comment/Colignatus for more.

Jeffrey Vernon Merkey, first editing as Gadugi and later under various other IPs and registered names, was banned for legal threats, repeatedly alleging that Internet stalkers were roaming freely on Wikipedia.

Rms125a@hotmail.com

Maliscious personal insults and hostile attitude. Was taken to the ArbCom, which suggested just banning him. Was later banned.

Jason Gastrich

Having the singular honor of two entries on this page, Jason Gastrich has continued to abuse sockpuppets and has been banned indefinitely by the community.
