- February - the New Horizons probe (the first probe to visit Pluto) is expected to pass through the Jupiter system at 21 km/s (47,000 mph), using a gravitational slingshot to change its trajectory towards Pluto.

- February- NBA All-Star Game to be held in Las Vegas, Nevada. This will mark the first time a city without an NBA franchise has hosted the game.
