Wainwright is a small town on the prairies of Alberta, Canada on the outskirts of a large army base (Western Area Training Centre or, WATC). It has three schools: Wainwright Elementary, Wainwright High School, and the catholic Blessed Sacrament School.

Population: 5,365 (2005)

Town is located about 57 km south of Vermilion along Highway 41, called the Buffalo Trail. Highway 14 also passes through this town. Wainwright is about 200 km east of Edmonton on Highway 14.

The railway is important to Wainwright. Wainwright is a divisional point on the CNR main line.

A common expression used by soldiers training at WATC is "Wainwright Goggles" used to describe how any girl will look beautiful after one sees a Wainwright girl.
