West Yellowstone is a town located in Gallatin County, Montana, adjacent to Yellowstone National Park. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 1,177. The town is served by Yellowstone Airport.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²). 2.1 km² (0.8 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.
Demographics
As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 1,177 people, 518 households, and 289 families residing in the town. The population density was 561.0/km² (1,458.9/mi²). There were 806 housing units at an average density of 384.2/km² (999.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 91.93% White, 0.34% African American, 0.85% Native American, 0.76% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 4.84% from other races, and 1.27% from two or more races. 7.73% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 518 households out of which 26.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 42.9% were married couples living together, 8.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 44.2% were non-families. 34.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 2.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.15 and the average family size was 2.76.
In the town the population was spread out with 22.4% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 35.9% from 25 to 44, 28.5% from 45 to 64, and 5.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 123.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 121.1 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $30,703, and the median income for a family was $37,250. Males had a median income of $24,297 versus $20,909 for females. The per capita income for the town was $19,136. 12.9% of the population and 9.1% of families were below the poverty line. 18.2% of those under the age of 18 and 5.1% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
