This page is an incomplete list of proposed mergers. Anyone may list any article merger proposal here. This is optional, and does not replace any of the other steps in the merger process. Please add the appropriate merger tag(s) to the articles before listing them here.

In general, this page should be used primarily to solicit outside feedback regarding mergers (particularly those of a controversial nature), or assistance with difficult or complicated mergers. Brief replies may be posted here, but lengthy discussions should be confined to the talk pages of the articles involved.

After articles are merged (or a consensus that the articles should not be merged is reached), please remove them from the list below. If you want to show off your work, use the talk page.

Category mergers should not be proposed here. Please see Wikipedia:Categories for deletion.

For a complete list of articles with current merger proposals, please see Category:Articles to be merged.

  • xiaozhuan is the Chinese, not English name of the small seal script, so I don't believe this page should be redirected from small seal script. This is an English Wiki, and the names 'seal script' and 'small seal script' are the dominant English forms for xiaozhuan. Furthermore, what little info there is on the page is bad; small seal script was not invented by Li Si; I've added clarifications and reference on the seal script and other relevant pages. I don't believe it was a 'work' (implying a book) by him, either, nor does the naming of the xiaozhuan script connected to the title of such a book as far as I can gather from reading Qiu Xigui on this. No such title is listed in the fairly comprehensive Loewe, Michael (ed., 1993). Early Chinese Texts: A Bibliographical Guide; University of California, Berkeley, ISBN 1-55729-043-1. Next, the main treatment of 'small seal script' should be on the 'seal script' page anyway, especially in light of the fact that the name 'large seal script' is an ambiguous, later coinage with serious problems as I've discussed on the 'seal script' page. "Seal script" already primarily indicates the 'small seal' form. No separate page is necessary, and if one is created under that name or left in place under the name of 'xiaozhuan', clarification of the problems aforementioned would be required. Due to these problems and the underdeveloped nature of this page, I think it should be merged or deleted. If links to 'small seal script', 'small seal' and 'xiaozhuan' can all be redirected to the well-developed 'seal script' page and the content of the highly unsatisfactory xiaozhuan page simply abandoned, that would be ideal, but I have not been able so far to figure out how to perform such converging linkage. Can someone please help? Thanks! Dragonbones 03:14, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
  • Naked eye planets, Seven heavenly objects, and Starry planets should all be merged. They all cover the same subject--planets and planetlike objects that can be seen without a telescope. It looks to me like people did not do adequate searches before creating new articles. I think "naked eye planets" is the preferred name in astronomy. Maestlin 21:59, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
  • CamelBak into hydration pack - but only the generic info on hydration packs. The former is longer than the latter, only because of a more detailed explanation of the topic, not from coverage of company. --Christopherlin 23:51, 14 March 2006 (UTC)
  • Entamoeba histolytica and Amebiasis - most of the former article is about the latter (which is a stub), so it should be in that article. Both articles could exist if there is enough information to make it worthwhile, but as it stands the stub is starved by the presence of its subject matter in the full article about a different subject. • MetroStars into Red Bull New York has been proposed. Outside opinion would be helpful. --Elliskev 18:29, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
    • I am responsible for at least 90% of the content of the MetroStars article and a large percentage of 100s of other Major League Soccer articles. My points against the merge are many and are stated at Talk:MetroStars, but I will summarize here:
  1. The corporate rebranding is almost unique in American sports, there is very little precedent. However, for many re-branded teams in world sport, two pages exist: Anaheim Angels vs Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Jaguar Racing vs Red Bull Racing.
  2. A large percentage of MetroStars fans will not follow Red Bull. A large percentage of those who will follow RB will not use the "corporate" name. Merging the pages is a slap in the face of those fans.
  3. Down the line, an expansion MetroStars franchise could be created, which will assume the old Metro history.
  4. RB has a history of re-writing history of their purchases, and that's already been seen on MLS's official website, as past MetroStars articles are re-branded with a new name. I don't think Wikipedia should be following that line.
  5. If the merge is created, this will become a volatile issue with many fans; see Montreal Expos vs Washington Nationals or Wimbledon F.C. vs Milton Keynes Dons F.C. vs AFC Wimbledon.
I propose of keeping the MetroStars page to chronicle the team history from inception until 2005 (perhaps modifying it so resemble the Anaheim Angels article) and the RBNY page to encompass the Metro history, while carrying it on. Thank you for listening. DR31 (talk) 18:43, 10 March 2006 (UTC)
  • Depersonalization disorder into Depersonalization—they both describe the same disorder in slighly different ways. They could possibly be made more separate, but each has so little content that I'm in favor of merging them. --Tifego 04:47, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

  • TRS connector into Jack plug. "Jack Plug" for most intents is a misnomer (please see proposed move on the talk page). A TRS connector is a type of "jack plug." Many pages link to both articles and there is much information that needs to be combined. ICberg7 01:38, 28 February 2006 (UTC)
  • Nissan LT engine into Nissan L engine. The L engine listing appears to include all the L series engines, the LT engine included. Since LT is a stub, maybe a redirect would be a better solution... but I'll let a car person make that decision. --Lendorien 07:16, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
  • Chest into Thorax The chest basically refers to the anterior aspect of the thorax.Beanmedic 06:50, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
  • Snaps into Schnapps - Different cultural spellings for the same thing. SilkTork 21:24, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
  • Alley catting into Gang bang - same activity; "alley catting" seems to be British slang, and the article is nowhere near as fleshed out as "gang bang". -Branddobbe 04:28, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
  • Seiyū to Voice actor — The first is about voice actors in Japan, the second is about voice actors anywhere. — BrianSmithson 21:06, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
  • Whipple procedure to Pancreaticoduodenectomy - The Whipple procedure is the most common and famous technique of pancreaticoduodenectomy, and though distinct concepts, are considered synonyms even by many physicians. --Iglesias 22:28, 7 February 2006 (UTC)
  • Consanguinity and Cousin chart. A cousin chart is a Table of Consanguinity, and it would make more sense for the consanguinity article to encompass both. Right now it's confusing. --Doctorcherokee 02:21, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

  • The article Kawaii (Japanese for "cute") is essentially a dictionary definition bolstered by assorted trivia. In Japan, the cuteness fetish is a distinct and interesting phenomenon which could be mentioned under Culture of Japan, but it doesn't merit a separate article under the Japanese word for "cute". The Crow 18:45, 30 January 2006 (UTC)
  • It appears that Solar Tower and Solar Tower Buronga are both about one and the same structure that hasn't even been built yet. In addition there is already a third article about solar chimneys in which the generic concept of a Solar Tower is discussed. I would suggest have one Solar chimney article devoted to the concept only, and one other Solar Tower article devoted to the proposed commercial realization and construction of one of those structures in Australia. JDH 15:32, 29 January 2006
  • The Heartbreakers needs to be merged into Johnny Thunders, mainly because the Heartbreakers were part of Mr. Thunders' history, not the other way around, and most of the Heartbreakers' history (with the exception of their seminal L.A.M.F. album) would be better covered as part of the Thunders article. Cjmarsicano 17:17, 20 January 2006 (UTC)
  • Electron shells and energy levels describe exactly the same thing, but each article has its own info. (Shells article is now included in "electron configuration" article, ans so should "energy level") The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.18.63.78 (talk • contribs) 01:40, 18 January 2006 (UTC).
  • Proceso de Reorganización Nacional and Dirty War. Although some might argue the two aren't the exact same thing, the content of the respective articles has, without being literally identical, the same scope and cover pretty much the same period of time. It's probably the best solution to have a chapter DW in PdRN, or vice versa. -- 81.220.59.118 19:40, 11 January 2006 (UTC)
  • IUM and OpenView. HP IUM is just a sub-product of openview MNewnham 20:21, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
  • Hotspot (wifi) should be merged into Wireless access point. "Hotspot" is a trademark owned by Deutsche Telekom to refer to this technology. Though it is sometimes used as a genericized trademark to refer to all access points, and sometimes used incorrectly to refer to multi-point wireless networks at large locations such as universities; the majority of the information in this article is redundant. --DDG 21:09, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
  • Hairshirt should be merged into Cilice, as the latter has more information and images.Benami 10:05, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
  • Seems iffy, but I think it could work. If possible, I'd like to assist with the categorization. -ZeroTalk 18:29, 16 January 2006 (UTC)
  • Not workable. All four terms mean different things. Not every "pro-choice" person is "pro-abortion". Not every "anti-abortion" person agrees with the political aims of "Pro-Life" campaigners. The terms all have different nuances. "Pro-choice" and "Pro-life" are political stances based on a set of values, often based on secular versus religious beliefs. "Pro-Abortion" and "Anti-abortion" refer to stances on a specific issue. Holding pro- or anti- views on abortion doesn't necessarily mean one is attached to or even supportive of the political campaigns and perspectives underlying the "Pro-choice" and "Pro-life" tags. • Shouldn't all the lawsuits on the Lowell page be on the San Francisco Unified School District page instead, since they're NAACP v. San Francisco Unified School District, Ho v. San Francisco Unified School District, and the Consent Decree applies to ALL schools in the San Francisco Unified School District, not just Lowell? --69.106.248.138 18:09, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

November 2005

  • Busy waiting and Spinlock. I don't see the difference. --Abdull 17:46, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
    • You're right, they're the same concept. But the Busy waiting aritcle approaches in user space, and from an efficiency point-of-view, whereas Spinlock approches it in kernel space, and as a concurrency control technique. Achieving a balance between these in a single article will be a challenge. Jamie 09:06, 14 November 2005 (UTC)

October 2005

  • I don't think the article Lena Soderberg is important without mentioning her role in Lenna, so proposing the merge. --Puzzlet Chung 15:54, 26 October 2005 (UTC)

September 2005

  • Foreign relations between Japan and China & Sino-Japanese relations: I've unmerged these two because the previous merge was a simple copy-&-paste job, with no consideration of the content (How can the "Concluding Remarks" be in the middle and above the Table of Contents ?). Need someone familiar with the topic to incorporate the materials into one article that flows properly. -- PFHLai 14:29, 28 September 2005 (UTC)

August 2005

  • London Trams and Trams in London could be merged (note comments in talk pages) as much overlap/duplication. If appropriate could divide into periods covering (Trams to closure) and (Trams the new generation - ie Croydon tramlink and other modern developments) appropriatedly cross linked. Jackiespeel 18:03, 10 August 2005 (UTC)

July 2005

  • Cost accounting possibly could be merged with management accounting. Although my professor does not make a difference between these two, I am not so sure so I ask for your opinion. Renata3 16:17, 15 July 2005 (UTC)

May 2005

  • Supercoil and Superhelix have significant overlap, but my knowledge of the subject is not enough to judge how the merging would be done better. -- Rune Welsh 15:53, 3 May 2005 (UTC)

  • I think toxicity, toxin should be merged. Perhaps also poison, so that the subtle difference between a "toxin" and a "poison" can be explained on the merged page, rather than duplicated on both pages. (toxic already redirects to toxin). --DavidCary 19:24, 1 Nov 2004 (UTC)
    • It seems to me that the merge needed is more between poison and toxin as the distinction is subtle and toxins being a subset of poisons. Toxicity is a discussion of how potent poisons and toxins are and could be a section on that page but seems also fine as its own page.

  • Wikipedia:Browser notes into meta:Browser issues with MediaWiki. --Zigger 12:28, 30 May 2004 (UTC)
    • there could be a case to leaving them separated[:] firstoff, the two projects use difrent[sic] character encoding[;] secondly the wiki one seems to be along the lins of, if you have x browere[sic], then you might have x problems, where[]as the meta one seems like, there are the known issues with meta. although i think that may just be a diffrence[sic] in style.
    • They should be merged. Any "problems" that may be had using Wikipedia with a browser are bugs, and should be fixed. Some of the content on this page should also be merged into Wikipedia:Tools. JesseW 05:52, 3 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Unsigned/undated listings

  • Jury trial and jury: a lot of material in jury is about the trial process, and should be moved accordingly. US-specific and non-US specific aspects should be sorted out. Jury should keep jury selection, indemnification etc.
  • Mass airflow sensor and Mass air meter should be merged. Also I think the former is most commonly referred to with 'Air' and 'Flow' as separate words. Also, should be disambiguated from MAF
  • Metal Slug X is a retooled version of the Metal Slug 2 video game. The articles contain mostly the same information aside from the minor diferences and should be merged. manmonk
  • Posadas and La Posada contain similar content, descriving the Mexican holiday tradition. These should be merged, and a redirect set up from one to the other. Las Posadas is already redirecting to La Posada.
