Scope

This WikiProject aims primarily to define a standard format for biographical articles.

Descendancy

This WikiProject's descendancy includes the following projects: Academics, Composers, Historical figures, Political figures, Saints, and the Canadian Dictionary of Biography Initiative.

These projects should be merged into the parent Biography project. Adraeus 09:38, 18 May 2005 (UTC)

Members

  • Adraeus — I'm interested in esoteric figures who satisfy the criteria for inclusion.
  • SmelialichuI'm working through transferring biographies from the 1911 Encyclopædia Britannica. I'm Working from B (most of A is supposedly already entered)
  • Netoholic — working on the infobox and standardization of article layout
  • User:Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) I enjoy rescuing people from obscurity, my sources are mostly online newspaper archives that have not been indexed by Google, because they are only archived as a raw OCR dump. My favorite activity is to find a notable person that has no Google reference at all. I am a paid subscriber to several archives. I have been criticized for adding people not considered notable, and of being an "inclusionist". I also like to add the image of an obituary to wikicommons, if it is now in the public domain, and transcribe the full obituary for wikisource, so people can check my facts.
  • Vaoverland
  • WikiUser — I've already done about 40 biographies, after taking trouble to trawl for hours through the "requested articles" lists on various pages, including the UK wikipedians area. I have written others on other sites to. I've researched with great effort and time to make the articles accurate. I am the resident editor for the biography sections for several people on other non-wiki sites too.
  • Quinobi I've only written one so far, but I'm also trying to thrash through the WkiProjects and portals to help reorganize them for better alignement to a stucture that makes more sense.
  • Martin — I'm currently replacing the tables in the early English and Wessex monarchy with templates, so they can be given a consistent style.
  • User:Bentong Isles — I'm currently entering information about Philippine writers.
  • User:Vaoverland I'm interested mostly in persons in Virginia, West Virginia, and land transportation history.
  • Stilltim — I'm working on notable people from Delaware.
  • Icelandic Hurricane-working on relatives and locals.
  • MikeBriggs — Currently working on actors.

Tasks

  • Arthur Herzog — stub; please expand. Adraeus 09:38, 18 May 2005 (UTC)
  • Edgar Allan Poe - the quality of this article needs to be lifted to get it to featured quality. If you are interested in helping improve this article once more, see here. Harro5 07:18, May 24, 2005 (UTC)

Structure

  1. Create a new page. (See m:Help:Starting a new page for details.)
  2. Create an outline for the biography article you started:

Hierarchy and classification

There shall be a List of people which will act as a main source to list the various biographies.

Other discussions are at:

No classification of biographies has been defined. See this example on dividing a topic into a hierarchy.
