History of the Name
"Wilson" is derived from William, an old Germanic name. It became popular in England in the 1000s and 1100s, especially because people were naming their offspring Wilson, which was closely related to William the Conqueror. Wilsons are found primarily in Scotland, England, and the United States. There is also a large number of people with this last name found in Wales, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada. "Wilson" is the eighth most common name in the U.S.A.
