Wireless Valley Communications

From Free net encyclopedia

Wireless Valley Communications, Inc. was a maker of hardware and software for use with Wireless LANs and in-building and campus wireless networking. Among its novel ideas are the use of 2-D and 3-D CAD software to design or manage wireless networks in and around buildings.

The company was formed in 1995 as a spinoff by Ted Rappaport, a professor at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia. Roger Skidmore, a graduate student in electrical engineering, joined as the first employee in 1998. In 2002, Prof. Rappaport took up a faculty position with the University of Texas at Austin, and unfortunately for West Virginia's hopes of developing its wireless industry, the company moved to Austin, Texas with him.

Wireless Valley was acquired by Motorola in 2004.
