You're Under Arrest

From Free net encyclopedia

You're Under Arrest (original title (Japanese): 逮捕しちゃうぞ; Taiho Shichauzo) is the title of both manga and anime created by Kosuke Fujishima, famous for his later popular series, Oh! My Goddess (also known as Ah! My Goddess or Ah! Megami-sama).

The story revolves around the adventures of Natsumi Tsujimoto and Miyuki Kobayakawa, two female members of the Tokyo Police Department. The series is largely episodic, and much of it focuses on the interaction between the main characters and the humorous supporting cast. The English version of the manga has been published by Dark Horse Comics.

Characters

These are some of the more notable characters in You're Under Arrest!:

Note: names are written in Western style with the given name preceding the surname.

Natsumi Tsujimoto: Natsumi is an officer ("junsa") at Bokuto Station in Tokyo. She is very outgoing as well as very laid back. She often demonstrates superhuman strength and is a motorcycle enthusiast, capable of high-risk maneuvers on both bikes and mopeds. Natsumi has a prodigious appetite for food and alcohol, and has been known to show up at work with a hangover. She is also a chronic late sleeper. Despite having many bad habits, when the situation demands, she is a very capable police officer. She keeps a mini-moped, a Moto-Compo(JR-2), in her and Miyuki's patrol vehicle and uses it when a divide and conquer strategy is required.

Miyuki Kobayakawa: Natsumi's partner and roommate. Miyuki is not as physically tough as Natsumi, but she is much smarter and more polite. A technical genius, Miyuki frequently performs custom vehicle modifications for various people at the precinct. She is also gifted with computers. Miyuki is a superb driver and very difficult to shake in a pursuit. She is also punctual, shy and diligent – in contrast to Natsumi, who is tardy, brash and frequently lazy. Her mini patrol car, a Honda Today, is a heavily modified version. Normally the engine is a 554cc, but Miyuki has bored it out to 700cc and added twin cams, a turbo-charger, and nitrous oxide boost. Informed sources suggest that such a car could theoretically be built given current technology, but would be impractical at best in reality.

Ken Nakajima: A motorcycle patrol officer who is such a gifted rider that he might have a successful racing career if he wanted it. Ken is strong, tough and handsome but also terribly shy. He and Miyuki share strong feelings for each other, but have difficulties expressing them.

Yoriko Nikaido: A dispatcher at Bokuto Station who later becomes a patrol officer. Yoriko is an incorrigible gossip who pokes her nose into everything that happens at the precinct. Unfortunately, she frequently misinterprets things she sees and hears about, resulting in embarrassment and complications. She keeps an especially close eye on Miyuki and Ken.

The Chief: The section chief of Bokuto Station's Traffic Control Department is usually referred to simply as “kachou” (chief). He is a handsome man and a stern but fair leader who uses a relaxed touch to keep his team of misfit officers in line. Natsumi had a long-standing crush on him before she met Shouji Toukairin.

Aoi Futaba: An officer who joins the station later in the series, Aoi is originally mistaken for a woman. In fact, Aoi is a man. He had cross dressed to go undercover as a decoy to catch a serial rapist and, in the process, “went native.” Now, Aoi is more feminine in appearance and personality than any of the women in the station. His neighbour treats him as female, to the point that they attempt to forge an “omiai” (arranged marriage) with a man. However, despite his "feminity," Aoi is most probably heterosexual: in one case, a man (Mr. Kitakoji) proposed to Aoi but was rejected. Yoriko becomes his partner, and in fan fiction they are frequently linked romantically.

Shouji Toukairin: A mountain rescue specialist and lieutenant, he met Natsumi during a rescue mission on a tower. They would later encounter each other once again when Shouji is temporarily stationed at Bokuto Precinct as an instuctor for rescue courses. It is then discovered that Shouji has the physical strength and appetite to match Natsumi's. Although Natsumi initially views him as a nuisance and a rival, they eventually fall in love. Despite being frequently absent in places like the Himalayas, he and Natsumi have a strong relationship. He enjoys eating bananas.

Strikeman: A costumed vigilante who calls himself a superhero, Strikeman uses baseballs and related items to punish offenders such as public drunks, flashers, and parking violators. He has come to the attention of Bokuto Precinct on several occasions, earning notoriety as a major nuisance and complete loon. He seems to have a fixation on Natsumi, considering her both his nemesis and his sidekick while referring to her as "Home-Run Woman."

Saori Saga: A student who frequently gets into trouble in the original TV series. After being rescued several times by Miyuki and Natsumi, she pledges to become a policewoman herself, and eventually succeeds, joining the crew of Bokuto Station in the second season.

Kaoruko Kinoshita: An assistant inspector ("keibuho") from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Headquarters, this charming lady first appeared in Season 1, File 49 with a car theft case in tow. A strict, no-nonsense kind of person, she initially comes off as cold-hearted, but beneath that imposing demeanor is actually a woman who is selflessly dedicated to her duties and those that fall under her command.
