Yu (Stargate)

Template:Stargate character Yu is a Goa'uld System Lord on the sci-fi television show, Stargate SG-1. Yu's name came from 玉皇上帝 Yuhuang Shangdi, the name given to the supreme Taoist god during the Song Dynasty, see the Jade Emperor.
One of the oldest Goa'uld, Yu was one of the leading voices on the council of System Lords, and was considered one of the least antagonistic Goa'uld towards the Tau'ri (Humans living on Earth), taking part in tripartite peace talks between the System Lords, the Tau'ri, and the Asgard. He also led a combined System Lords force against Anubis, a rogue Goa'uld who wished to attack and conquer Earth. Yu warned Teal'c that he and his rebel Jaffa were being secretly led by the Goa'uld Imhotep in "The Warrior." Yu's attack on Ba'al provided the needed distraction for Jack O'Neill to escape in "Abyss."
Despite these actions, Yu's attitude towards the Tau'ri has been closer to ambivalence than friendship or animosity. This may be due in part to Yu's desire for continuance of the status quo between the System Lords, or a consequence of his failing mental health later in the series.
He was in essence dying of old age, because he was unable to take on a new host and his sarcophagus was losing its recuperative effect on his body. His mind was being gradually affected by this, and he was showing signs of senility.
Yu's First Prime was an Asian Jaffa, Oshu; despite Yu's deteriorating mental health, Oshu would often continue to carry out what he believed to be his master's will, often against Yu's own occasionally confused orders.
Yu was stabbed and killed by Replicator Carter (a Replicator version of Samantha Carter) in the season eight episode "Reckoning".
Yu was played by Vince Crestejo.
