Zero set

From Free net encyclopedia

In mathematics, zero set is a subset of a topological space that is equal to f -1(0), where f is a continuous function.

Definition

Let X be a topological space, and let A be a subset of X. If there exists a continuous function

<math>f:X\longrightarrow \mathbb{R}</math>

such that <math>A = f^{-1}(0),</math> then A is said to be a zero set.
