al-Sumayriyya was a Palestinian town that was captured by Israel during the 1948 Arab-Israeli war. Its name is Arabic for "Little Samaria": it may have been inhabited by Samaritans in former centuries, but in the 18th century the Samaritans were expelled from the area and moved to Nablus. At the start of 1948 al-Sumayriyya's inhabitants were all Muslims.
