Zalman Shazar (Shneiur Zalman Robshov) (24 November 1889, Mir, near Minsk - October 5, 1974, Jerusalem) was an author, poet and the third president of Israel (1963 - 1973). Shazar also served as the editor-in-chief of the Israeli newspaper Davar from 1944 to 1949 and education minister in the Israeli Labor party government from 1949 to 1951.
