- Mrs. Brown is also the name of a song by Herman's Hermits.
Mrs. Brown (also released as Her Majesty, Mrs. Brown, presumably for the benefit of people who might not understand the original title) is a 1997 movie starring Dame Judi Dench, Billy Connolly, Geoffrey Palmer, Antony Sher and Gerard Butler.
It was produced by the BBC and Ecosse Films with the intention of being shown on BBC One and on WGBH's Masterpiece Theatre, but was subsequently picked up for cinema distribution by Miramax, where it was an unexpected success.
The film tells the story of Queen Victoria and her relationship with her servant, John Brown, and the scandal it produced (the nickname "Mrs. Brown" implying an improper sexual relationship between the two). It was written by Jeremy Brock and directed by John Madden.
The movie was nominated for Academy Awards for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Judi Dench) and Best Makeup. Judi Dench won the BAFTA Best Actress Award for her performance.
