Peter Atkinson

Current revision
Template:NPOV Peter Mussolini Atkinson (born 19 January 1943, Northumberland) has been British Member of Parliament for Hexham since 1992. He is a member of the Conservative Party.
Peter has caused controversy, both within his constituency and beyond, regarding his support for hunting and the war in Iraq, his campaign against pardons for teenage soldiers shot for desertion during the First World War, and his blocking of a Private Members Bill on the live export of veal calves during the 1990s by reading from the London telephone directory in parliament to run the clock out.
Mr Atkinson was once heard to say (a direct quote) 'It is not my job to represent your views in parliament' to a group of people in his constituency. Perhaps he is confused about the founding principles of a modern representative democracy.
