Pierre Werner (December 29, 1913 - June 24, 2002) was a Luxembourg politician.
He was born in Saint André near Lille in France, by Luxembourg parents. He was Prime Minister of Luxembourg from 1959 to 1974 and from 1979 to 1984. In the 1960s he worked on the fundaments of the European Economic Community. He proposed a plan in 1970, the so-called Werner-plan, for a European monetary union. The plan focused on monetary policy and only the first of the three steps of the plan was executed. Nearly twenty years later, the Delors-plan, introducing the Euro, was modelled after the Werner-plan.
