Route 34 (CT-34) is 24.37 miles long, and it extends westward from its start at the interchange with I-95 and I-91 in New Haven to Washington Street near Interstate 84 in Newtown, Connecticut. It is a primary east-west state route connecting the New Haven and Danbury areas.
It begins as a 2-lane principal arterial road in Newtown, expanding to a 4-lane divided highway in Derby. In New Haven, it briefly becomes a 6-lane freeway before terminating at the interchange with Interstate 95 and Interstate 91 (CT 34 is actually 8-lanes at the approach of this interchange).
