The Council of Elders is the name given by several organizations to a group of people entrusted in some way with the organization's direction.
Some organisations that have Councils of Elders include:
- Some Native American tribes
- The German National Parliament (Bundestag)
- The United Church of God
- various other cultures wiccan traditions
- Somaliland
The word Senate is derived from the Latin word Senatus. Senex means "old man". Senatus roughly translates to Council of Elders.
