Sullivan County is a county located in the state of Missouri. As of 2000, the population is 7,219. Its county seat is Milan6. The county was organized in 1843 and named after the American Revolutionary War general John Sullivan.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,687 km² (651 mi²). 1,686 km² (651 mi²) of it is land and 1 km² (0 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.07% water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 7,219 people, 2,925 households, and 1,959 families residing in the county. The population density was 4/km² (11/mi²). There were 3,364 housing units at an average density of 2/km² (5/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 94.96% White, 0.14% Black or African American, 0.25% Native American, 0.14% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 3.55% from other races, and 0.90% from two or more races. 8.78% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 2,925 households out of which 29.60% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.30% were married couples living together, 9.10% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.00% were non-families. 29.10% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.00% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.42 and the average family size was 2.95.

In the county the population was spread out with 25.00% under the age of 18, 7.50% from 18 to 24, 26.30% from 25 to 44, 22.70% from 45 to 64, and 18.50% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 100.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.70 males.

The median income for a household in the county was $26,107, and the median income for a family was $33,590. Males had a median income of $23,245 versus $19,167 for females. The per capita income for the county was $13,392. 16.50% of the population and 11.00% of families were below the poverty line. 19.60% of those under the age of 18 and 20.90% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
