History

Alpha Gamma Delta (ΑΓΔ), founded with the purpose of being an international fraternity for women, was founded in 1904 at Syracuse University. Today, Alpha Gamma Delta enjoys wide recognition as a premier women's organization committed to academic excellence, leadership development, high ideals and sisterhood.

AGD was actually started not as a sorority, but as a fraternity. AGD is international, with chapters throughout the United States and Canada.

Alpha Gamma Delta's flowers are red and buff roses, with green asparagus plumosa fern. The jewel is the pearl. The colors are red, buff, and green. The mascot is a squirrel. Alpha Gamma Delta's current membership exceeds 140,000. There are currently 180 collegiate chapters and one colony.

Philanthropy

Since 1979, diabetes has been Alpha Gamma Delta’s philanthropic focus. Through the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation, large grants are made annually to organizations and individuals for diabetes research, treatment and education.

The Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation assists members through scholarship grants, wellness programs, leadership training and workshops. Members in emergency financial need are also aided through the support of the Foundation.
