Bramming

Bramming is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Ribe County on the west coast of the Jutland peninsula in southwest Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 170 km², and has a total population of 13,638 (2005). Its mayor is Karl Kristian Knutzen, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.

The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Bramming. Other towns in the municipality are Gørding, Hunderup, and Store Darum.

Neighboring municipalities with land connection are Ribe to the south, Holsted to the east, Helle to the north, and Esbjerg to the west. Part of its western border is defined by Fanø Bay (Fanø Bugt). The island municipality of Fanø is located in Fanø Bay, and is also a municipal neighbor to Bramming. Beyond the Fano Bay are the waters of the North Sea.

By January 1, 2007 Bramming municipality will cease to exist as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged with existing Ribe and Esbjerg municipalities to form the new Esbjerg municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 741 km² and a total population of 114,097 (2005). The new municipality will belong to the new Region Syddanmark ("South Denmark Region").
