Camas County, Idaho

Camas County is a county located in the state of Idaho. As of 2000, the population is 991. The county seat and only incorporated city is Fairfield6. Camas County is the state's smallest in terms of population.
Camas County was created by the Idaho Legislature on February 6, 1917 by a partition of Blaine County. It is named for a lily-like bulb found in the region used as a food source by native Americans and settlers.

Geography
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 2,795 km² (1,079 mi²). 2,784 km² (1,075 mi²) of it is land and 11 km² (4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.38% water.

Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there were 991 people, 396 households, and 287 families residing in the county. The population density was 0/km² (1/mi²). There were 601 housing units at an average density of 0/km² (1/mi²). The racial makeup of the county was 95.16% White, 1.21% Black or African American, 0.30% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.91% from other races, and 2.22% from two or more races. 5.55% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 396 households out of which 30.80% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.20% were married couples living together, 4.50% had a female householder with no husband present, and 27.50% were non-families. 22.20% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.30% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.49 and the average family size was 2.92.
In the county the population was spread out with 24.70% under the age of 18, 6.60% from 18 to 24, 28.20% from 25 to 44, 27.50% from 45 to 64, and 13.00% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 104.80 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102.20 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $34,167, and the median income for a family was $40,156. Males had a median income of $30,500 versus $21,563 for females. The per capita income for the county was $19,550. 8.30% of the population and 7.20% of families were below the poverty line. 7.20% of those under the age of 18 and 8.50% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
