Fatback Band
From Free net encyclopedia
The Fatback Band (later, simply Fatback) was a 1970s and '80s American funk band.
[edit]
Career
They began recording in 1973 with "Street Dance" and "Fatbackin'" (Perception Records), and then issued some singles on Event Records. But initial sales were slim until "(Do The) Spanish Hustle" (1976), was a moderate hit.
Conversely, "King Tim III (Personality Jock)", a 1979 B-side is widely considered the first hip hop single, pre-dating by a few weeks the issue of Sugarhill Gang's big seller, "Rapper's Delight".
In the 1980s, Fatback had several more hits, including "Take It Any Way You Can't It", "I Found Lovin' " and "Spread Love".
The band had a lot more success in South America, especially in Brazil (with "Money", and "Backstrokin' ").
