Fusion (Dragon Ball)
From Free net encyclopedia
Fusion from the anime Dragon Ball Z refers to the joining of two persons to become one. This is done in a variety of ways including the Fusion Dance, body and energy merging (i.e. Namekian Fusion), and Potara earring fusion. Fusion in these senses is similar to Karyogamy, the joining of two cell nuclei.

Forms of Fusion
Fusion Dance
The Fusion Dance is a precise set of poses and movements that allows two individuals to join together. It is likely practised by the creators, the Metamorans (Natamoru in the original), who taught Goku. Both individuals must be roughly the same size, and have the same current power level at the time of fusion. If any mistakes are done during the Fusion Dance (off-speed, off-angles, twitching, blinking...etc, in other words the pair must be mirror images), it will either not work right (making a defective fused being, overweight, slow, weak or skinny) or not work at all.
This fusion creates a new body that resembles both characters that fused, but can have a dominant side both visually and in how they act. The product is automatically dressed in Metamoran (Natamoru) clothing. It's limitations are that it uses a lot of energy, and lasts exactly half an hour. There is no way to cancel or terminate a failed fusion before it's entire duration is complete. Goku and Vegeta do not require a resting time where it is impossible to refuse, while Goten and Trunks need an entire hour. Another difference between the two pairs is that Goten and Trunks, being weaker individuals than Goku and Vegeta, produce a relatively weaker fusion being than Gogeta or Vegetto (two fusion beings produced with Goku and Vegeta). This is due to the individual's powers being multiplied by an unknown factor. Thus, this shows how stronger individuals produce stronger beings.
The Dance fusion is inferior to the Potara method. The name of the dominant individual begins the name of the fused warrior, such as the name Goku beginning Gogeta.
In the Dragon Ball Z manga (In the middle of Kid Buu Saga), Vegeta refuses to fuse with Goku using this method, as he considers the dance "disgusting".
- Dance Steps:
The Fusion dance is very complex and must be performed exactly right, otherwise the Fusion will either go wrong or not happen at all. The instructions:
1. Stand three paces from each other, side to side. Hold your arms out so your arms point away from your partner, palms open and facing forwards.
2. While saying "Fuuuu..." shuffle your feet sideways towards your partner. You must take exactly three steps at this time. While doing so, swing your arms over your head so they end up pointing towards your partner.
3. Then, while saying "sion..." swing your arms across your body, turning them so your palm faces the floor and closing your fists. At the same time, bring your outer leg up so it is at a right angle, with your shin facing your partner and your foot level with your knee.
4. Finally, shout "Ha!" and lean your torso over so it is slanted towards your partner. Bring your arms up over your head so they point "upwards" (in relation to you) with the index fingers out. Fully extend your outer leg. At this point your fingers should touch your partner's fingers. If both of you do this exactly right, the Fusion will be successful. However, make one mistake and you will either fuse wrongly, or not fuse at all.
Your partner must mirror these poses exactly, so it is important to practice to get the timing and movement speed in sync.
The Dance has been used to create:
Potara Earring Fusion
The Potara fusion earrings allow for a fusion that is similar to that from the Fusion Dance, but it is permanent and isn't supposed to be able to be reversed. Each individual puts an earring on the opposite ear than the other. This fusion creates a new body that resembles both characters that fused, but can have a dominant side both visually and in how they act. The physical appearance of both individuals combine, including the clothing and hair. This fusion is far superior than the Fusion Dance method, Elder Kai says it is 100 times better. No requirements like the ones used in the Dance (identical power levels and physical build) are necessary for the earrings. When using this method, the name of the dominant individual begins the blended name of the fused being. Fused beings cannot fuse again while currently fused already. Potara Earring Fusion is a property of the Kaiôshin, and is used by the following:
- Rou Dai Kaiôshin + a Witch (Permanent)
- East Kaiôshin + Kibito => Template:DB:ldbc (Permanent)
- Goku+ Vegeta => Vegetto (Reversed by Buu)
Yuugou
A special technique unique to the Nameks, this is more of an assimilation then a fusion as one Namek absorbs the energy, strength, memories, and intelligence or thought pattern of another. Both participants must willingly consent to fuse in this manner and usually the pair agree to the stronger of the two to serve their body as the host. The agreed host places his hand over the chest of the other and through unknown thoughts, a flash merges them. The effect of this fusion is permanent.
This technique was used twice in the series; in both cases Piccolo took the role of the absorber. The first time, Piccolo absorbed Nail, the last warrior-class Namekian, before fighting Freeza; the second time Piccolo absorbed Kami before fighting Imperfect Cell. In both incidences the new Piccolo was strong enough to match or possibly beat the current villain (he matched Frieza 2nd form blow for blow).
Absorption
Absorption is a bit different than Fusion, as it usually involves the consumption of an individual, as opposed to a sharing of power. This is done by Cell and Buu. Cell uses his scorpion-like tail to absorb a helpless victim, while Buu uses his flesh to do the job.
Imaginary Fusions
Image:Gokule dengoku.JPG In the Budokai series of video games there are several imaginary fusions. Including Tiencha (a dance fusion between Tien and Yamcha) and Gokule (an earring fusion between Goku and Hercule (also known as Gotan, using Hercule's name in the uncut version, Mr. Satan). Gokule however is based on a scene from the anime, when Goku has to choose who to fuse with before Vegeta turns up. He has to choose between Hercule (and pictures the above mentioned Gokule) and Dende (picturing Denku).
Trivia
It was Akira Toriyama's, the author of the manga, idea for the fused character to be voiced by two actors of the pre-fused characters in the anime.es:Fusión Metamoru
