Jared is a popular masculine first name (in the United States and other countries) of Biblical derivation, etymologically of the Hebrew language. Translated it means "descent", denoting both 'descendent' and 'to fall'. In the Hebrew it is written ירד / יֶרֶד / יָרֶד, pronounced yĕ\yā́-rĕḏ. When transliterated into the English language it can be written Jared / Jarod / Jered (among other variations), being generally pronounced as dʒĕ-rĕd\rəd; according to classic Biblical pronunciation (denoted by syllabic stress accenting) it can be rendered dʒā\dʒē-rĕd. The name can be phonetically transcribed from Hebrew to English as Yared(h) / Yered(h) / Yored(h).

- A paternal descendent of Judah ben-Jacob(Israël), recorded in the Bible at 1 Chronicles 4:18. He may have been the founding settler of the Jewish Israelites who dwelled in the ancient town of Gedor, Judah (modern Khirbet Jedur, West Bank.) English translations of the Holy Scriptures (e.g., KJV) transliterate (spell) the name as Jered (pronounced dʒē-rĕd coherent with classic Biblical enunciation).
