KDVR is a television station on UHF Channel 31 (573.25 MHz video / 577.75 MHz audio) based in Denver, Colorado, USA and owned by Fox Television Stations Group. Its transmitter is located in Golden, Colorado. It is an affiliate of the Fox Network.

KDVR offers prime time programming from Fox; sports programming; talk, reality, and court shows; sitcoms; and nearly 30 hours of local news a week.

KDVR's signal is also relayed on KFCT (analog channel 22, digital channel 21) in Fort Collins. KDVR's signal covers Fort Collins and other areas of North Central Colorado not covered by the main KDVR signal. KFCT's signal reaches into Cheyenne, though Wyoming's capital already has their own Fox affiliate, KLWY channel 27.

History

KDVR first went on the air on August 10, 1983, as the first television station in Denver to sign on in over 30 years, and was the first UHF television station in the state of Colorado. In fact, Denver was the market that went the longest amount of time without getting a new TV station. KDVR started off as a locally owned station, running a lineup of cartoons, old sitcoms, drama shows, movies, and religious programming.

When KWGN-TV Channel 2 turned down the Fox affiliation in 1986, the affiliation went to KDVR by default. The station became known as "FOX31" in the late 1980s. It was subsequently acquired by Chase Broadcasting in 1990, Renaissance Broadcasting in 1992 (as part of a merger), and Fox in 1993, making it a network owned-and-operated station (O&O).

In October 1994, KDVR opened KFCT channel 22, to expand its coverage area north to the Wyoming border.

After it became a Fox O&O, KDVR added first-run talk and reality shows, but it aired no news programming at first. At one point, Fox approached KWGN again with an affiliation, and planned to sell KDVR to Qwest Broadcasting. However, that plan did not materialize.

KDVR was the last Fox O&O without a news department. The station finally gained one in 2000, and began to produce a 9pm newscast, competing against KWGN. KDVR also added a morning newscast, titled "Good Day Colorado", in 2004.
