Kurt Busiek (born September 16, 1960) is an American comic book writer. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts.
He has worked on a number of different titles in his career, starting in 1982 with a Green Lantern #162 backup story. These include Arrowsmith, The Avengers, Icon, Ninjak, Iron Man, Shockrockets, Superman: Secret Identity, Thunderbolts, The Power Company, Untold Tales of Spider-Man, JLA, and (perhaps most notably) the Marvels miniseries and (in the wake of the acclaim he received for Marvels) Kurt Busiek's Astro City. In 2003, he began a new Conan series for Dark Horse Comics but has since moved on. In late December 2005 Busiek signed a two-year exclusive contract with DC Comics.
Work on some of his more challenging, less mainstream projects, most notably Astro City, has been repeatedly delayed by a series of health problems. It turns out that his severe sinus problems, which resisted all treatment, had been brought about by mercury poisoning. [1]
His work has won him several awards in the comics industry, including the 1998 and 1999 Comics' Buyer's Guide Awards for Favorite Writer, with additional nominations in 1997 and every year from 2000 to 2004. He was also nominated for the Squiddy Award for Favorite Writer in 1993.
