MFM 103.4

From Free net encyclopedia

Template:Radio station MFM 103.4 (formerly Marcher Sound) is a radio station broadcasting to North West England and North East Wales from Wrexham. It is owned by GCap Media, due to the Marcher Radio Group being bought by GWR in October 2000, and broadcasts a mix of popular music and presenter chat as well as GWR/GCap networked shows, mainly in the evening. Its transmitter is on top of Hope Hill near Wrexham and although it officially broadcasts to Wrexham and Chester, it can be heard much further afield.

The station was named Marcher Sound until 1989 when it split from its AM frequency of 1260 and became MFM while its sister station became Marcher Gold, now Classic Gold Marcher. It then opened another FM frequency, MFM 97.1, in order for the station to be more audible on the Wirral. This station is now known as The Buzz 97.1.

In November 2005 it was announced that GCap's former Marcher Group radio stations, including MFM, are to be sold. This is due to the fact that they are outside of the company's primary target area [1].
