Main Page/Screenshots
From Free net encyclopedia
The purpose of this page is to collect screenshots of the Main Page in different browser / operating system / screen resolution combinations, to assist in debugging and standardizing the design.
Uncommon browsers and those exhibiting bugs/incorrect display are most useful to post screenshots of; virtually everybody can test standard configurations of Mozilla or IE/Win
Please name uploaded files like this: MainPage-Browser-Username.png (the PNG format is preferred because it is not lossy, unlike JPEGs).

Screenshots of fourth generation Main Page
Please take shots of this revision to make sure we are all looking at the same version. ... this won't be exact in any case though because most of the content is imported from other pages which continue to change.
Microbrowsers
Microbrowsers have some trouble with pages. Largely due to the sidebar and indentation style, some pages compress down columns to unreadable widths. The printable version seems to be a much better fit.

Gecko-based browsers
The major Gecko browsers are widely used and well-tested. No known major issues.
These include:
- Mozilla Application Suite
- Mozilla Firefox (named Phoenix/Firebird in the past)
- Netscape 7.x
- Galeon
MSIE
MSIE/Win 6.0 is widely used and well-tested. No known major issues.
5.0/5.5 for Windows and 5.2 for Mac are in circulation and not as well tested, but expected to work. Please notify about any problems...
Internet Explorer for Mac 5.1 is having some problems about Main Page (and also other Wikipedia pages) rendering (probably a CSS bug). Looks like the fix for Netscape has caught IE/Mac here... not sure why. Try variations on the @import rule. It's the @media section it didn't like. Have worked around this with an alternate Netscape fix, now works in Mac/IE. -- User:Brion VIBBER|Brion 09:09, 25 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Konqueror and Safari (and browsers using the Apple WebKit API). No known issues...?

Netscape (old)
Many problems with old Netscape versions... Netscape 4.x has among other things serious problems with CSS style support.
With broken stylesheets (before):

The base stylesheets are now called in a fashion that hides them from Netscape 4.x, and it no longer crashes in Windows. Inline styles are still there, however, and rendering isn't quite right. Netscape 4.x is not recommended, but a legible experience is preferred.

Interestingly, Netscape 3 renders the boxes on the main page more or less correctly compared with 4... However it gives a JavaScript error on every page and doesn't support PNG images or Unicode-numbered character entities.

Text browsers
The sidebar appears below the main text. Should it not be above? The problem is also there in links-graphic and elinks.

These two look like wrappers for the Internet Explorer ActiveX control:

Very old browsers; these are unaware of things like stylesheets, scripts, and HTTP 1.1 and can't talk to name-based virtual servers such as ours:
